Senior Technical Artist

 

Location: Newport Beach, CA

As a Senior Technical Artist, you will understand asset generation and implementation across all areas of game development. You will work with artists across all departments from modeling to lighting to support their development pipelines and ensure assets function within scope of the technical requirements. Working with each artistic department, you help to document and improve development processes for the production of 3D assets, materials, shaders, LODs, vfx and lighting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the production of game assets such as VFX, Lighting, Post-Processing, Materials/Shaders, Rigging, Technical Animation

  • Verify the integrity and reliability of all forms of lighting across the product

  • Own the setup, generation and maintenance of light baking and procedures

  • Provide technical support to artists as well as engineers and collect data to further improve tools and pipeline

  • Capture and analyze game performance data and provide recommendations and solutions for problem areas to the team

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience working with technical art in games or related industries

  • Must have portfolio demonstrating photorealistic lighting and vfx

  • Advanced Unreal 4 knowledge

  • Working knowledge with Unity

  • Ability to setup Rendering servers and farm computer for renders such as; Swarm, Autodesk, RedShift and Mantra

  • Advanced Shader knowledge in one or more of the following. Unreal, Unity, HLSL.

  • Advanced knowledge in VFX: Niagara, Cascade, Houdini, FumeFX, Max/Maya, After Effects, Slate, VectorGen

  • Optimization knowledge for levels, assets, particles, characters, animations, skeletons and level streaming techniques

  • Advanced knowledge in lighting; dynamic or baked. Forward and Deferred shading.

  • Working knowledge of Pix, RenderDocs, or similar tools

  • Working knowledge of Blueprints or similar visual programming language

  • Understand Console, VR, PC hardware capabilities and limitations

  • Understand color spaces, SDR, HDR and linear workflows

 

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Understand how to take screenshots, create pre-render cinematics, edit videos and compositing. 

  • Practical knowledge of the principles photography, color and composition
